Creeking Season is Finally Under Way

A cold, late spring in Western Canada has left creeking opportunities few and far between but the recent warm rainy weather has brought out a few keen boaters. Randy, Scott and I paddled Wilson Creek on Monday at a nice medium-low level. This made for a much more relaxing intro to the creeking season than Saturday's run on the Elk. Wilson Creek is a great "first creek". It's a grade 4 creek with two waterfalls, the first is a 12 footer and my own first ever waterfall, the second drop is more of a slide and more difficult but it is easily walked. The rest of the run consists of some great class 4 drops interspersed with crystal clear deep green pools.

Then on Tuesday Chris, Randy and I paddled Summit Creek which turned out to be lower and a little mellower than we would have liked but still another great day on the river. Summit Creek is a roadside Grade 4+ run that has continuous boulder gardens the whole way. I'm starting to get really excited for this weekend. I've lined up a big First D, some play boating at Brilliant, and last but not least, a trip down St.Leon Creek, which has an incredible 80 foot slide on it, so stay tuned for more. I'm also hoping to get some video footage for the ECE up on the blog, more on that later too. Here are a few pictures from a previous Wilson Creek run.
