Creeking in Alberta

In the last couple weeks I've had the pleasure of paddling some classic Southern Alberta Creeks including Cataract, Sheep and the Elbow. Each run is a great intro to creeking but they also offer up some harder drops if you want to step it up. I've been getting a lot of filming done recently and thus have some good footage of these runs. I'll let the footage do the talking. The video features Zigzag Falls on Cataract, Triple falls on the Sheep and Elbow Falls, the Notch and the Slide all on the Elbow River.

  1. Your pics are awesome! I'm a 2nd year paddler and still learning loads. I bought a jackson 4fun this year to sample some play/river running. Question, what boats are you running on these creeks? Would the 4fun be able to handle it? It looks like everyone is running a creek boat and now I'm sad that I didn't go that way because your pics are what I really want to get into as I improve.

  2. Yes we are almost always running these rivers in creekboats. The 4 fun might be able to handle some of the easier stuff but it is always easier and safer in a creekboat, because you ride higher and punch holes better. There are always a number of options to buy used creekboats and its never bad to have a playboat for easier runs and to learn to role.
