ECE Mission:Pingston Creek Part 4 - The Triple Set

Joelle, Dave and I camped at the mouth of the Pingston on Arrow Lake. This is a terrific camp site with a nice beach, lots of driftwood and three waterfalls just upstream. We woke up sore and tired from the previous day but decided to start the day off with some class V waterfalls. After all, flows were nice and high and the lighting conditions perfect.

We set up saftey and video cameras then I decided to give her a go. I had a perfect line off the top drop, hit the rooster tail and boofed it ending up a little left, quickly adjusted to the right, boofed the second one and then slid over the final drop into the lake. Next up Joelle came through the first drop a little off balance and flipped at the bottom. He hit a quick role and caught the eddy on the right before regrouping and finishing off the rapid cleanly. Dave decided to pass but I couldn't let such nice water levels and lighting go to waste so I walked up to do it again. This time off the first drop I was a little off balance and like Joelle, flipped and hit a quick role. I bypassed the eddy and went straight off the second drop before making it too the lake. I recommend starting any day with class V kayaking, everything else seems easy afterward.

It was still early so we decided to paddle the Middle again. Joelle and I hopscotched our way down, filming as many rapids as possible to show just how great this class IV-IV+ run really is. I was pretty happy that I was able to run the big boulder garden that I'd walked on my solo trip down the Middle.

Stay tuned for round 2 on the upper and the triple set.
