Gardener Creek Huckfest

Gardener Creek is a small tributary to Kuskunux Creek located just outside of Naksup, BC. Gardner Creek Falls are located just upstream of the bridge near the put in for the lower Kuskunux and take out for the upper. Head north from Nakusp and take your first right up to Nakusp Hot Springs. Park in the pull out at Gardner Creek. You can hike up river right and put in at the lip of the falls and take out in the pool at the bottom. The falls are a mere 20 feet but extremely fun and runnable at a wide range of flows. On Sunday, June 29, 2008, we had 7 different kayakers complete 19 runs down Gardner Creek Falls. Jordie Mckenzie completed 6, myself 4, and Spencer, Sonny, Dave, Joel and Louic combined for the other 9. The flow was really high and it is unfortunate to think that if the hydro project goes through the levels would never reach that flow again, barring a release from the dam. Everyone had great runs except Sonny who ejected from his boat upon landing but was able to get to shore immediately with many hands waiting to grab his boat. It was a super fun 2 hours and I was really excited to see so many people have so much fun on a 50 foot section of river.
