Brilliant:Video

I put together a short little video from the past week of surfing at Brilliant. Brilliant is big feature, either a wave or a hole depending on flows, located on the Kootenay River just upstream from it's confluence with the Columbia river. With the sun shining, the water levels perfect and eddy service you would expect to see a long line waiting to get on the wave but it was the exact opposite with only a few sightings of other boaters all weekend. Mike Grant and myself where joined by Joey Vosburgh on Sunday but even then it was difficult to not get exhausted from paddling non stop, so we rested on the hot rocks and surfed well into the evening. My dad will probably be upset for giving away the secret as he has been paddling here for the past ten years or so, year round with almost no line up ever. The best flows for Brilliant are in April and May as the Kootenay is rising and the Columbia remains low, but you will find some sort of feature there most of the year and with the mild climate, it makes for some good winter paddling.

Thanks goes to my Dad for coming and taking a few pictures despite his busy weekend.
